It’s about time you heard about Baby Pink if you hadn’t heard already. This artist from East London has a sound and vibe that is truly unmatched. Her latest single “Confused” tells a tale of new lovers, trying to navigate the intricacies of beginning of their relationship. We got in contact with Baby Pink and managed to get some more on this story.

About Baby Pink

How did you get your name?
Honestly, It was my favourite colour 4 years ago, so I dyed my hair baby pink and made it my artist name and it stuck. It’s still my favourite colour to be fair.

Where are you from?
I’m half Australian and half British so have spent time in both countries throughout my life, but longer in the UK. East London is my home.

What inspired you to start making music?
My dad is a musician so I grew up exposed to lots of different types of music and was lucky that I was always encouraged to sing and write at home. I think I wrote my first proper song when I was maybe 15, using it as a way to get out difficult feelings and thoughts I was having in a way I couldn’t communicate without music.

What type of music do you make?
I’m never sure how to answer this as my sound is always changing. I’ve been heavily influenced by hip hop and soul music, and I’d say at this stage I make a mix between rnb and neo soul. The stuff I’m working on at the moment has bits of other genres too though – garage, hip hop, pop.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
All I want for my future is peace of mind, creativity, passion, love, and to have the ability to affect people with my music on a bigger scale.

The cover for “confused” created by @kieron_boothe, a talented artist.

About Confused

How did you come up with the idea?
I listened to SiR’s album Chasing Summer and reached out to Black Prince who I’ve known for years now, he’s my go to producer especially if I have a specific style in mind. After hearing my reference, he produced the instrumental which I loved straight away and was able to develop with the hook and verse pretty quickly. I then reached out to John Alone, I had recently seen a video of him performing live on instagram and I knew as soon as I heard it that I wanted him on the track. John was really quick with his feature, I think he had his verse written and a demo recorded in a few days. We then got in the studio all together and recorded in a 2 hour session, so the initial process was really quick to be honest.

What is the message of the song?
The song narrates the experience of two people in the beginning stages of a situationship – the weird awkward stage where you’re both playing chicken to see who says what they want or need first.

What was the creative process like?
Very natural and smooth sailing, really good energies from everyone. The mixing process took a lot longer than the actual recording and writing time, so shout out to Tom for his persistence with the mix and master.

Who else did you collaborate with on this song?
@prodbyblackprince was the producer,  @johnalone_ was the featured artist and @tominthechambers killed the mix and master @kieron_boothe also did an amazing job on the cover art and @jakebailey93 did the graphic design.

What’s next for you?
I’m putting together a project currently, which I’m really excited about, so keep an eye out for that before the end of the year!
