Yiigaa recently released her new single Time Waster, a step in a new direction for the artist as she leans into Amapiano influences, while still maintaining pop sensibilities. The track is a display of Yiigaa’s talents, not only as a songwriter and performer, but also as a producer – the track was co-produced with J.Ar.J.
This song is about power. This song is about knowing your worth and claiming what you deserve. We wanted to create a song that represented the growing of strength in each line, the gaining of self belief. Simple inclusive lyricism, but each line has a different energy that pushes you to the chorus where you can let go and really bask in the person that this pain or hardship has made you become. You are your strongest saviour in darkness!
Time Waster had its live debut as Yiigaa performed at the iconic Lords Cricket Ground with The Hundred and BBC Introducing. She then quickly went onto We Out Here for her first festival performance on the Hennessy stage. Earlier this year Yiigaa sold out 2 nights at Servant Jazz Quarters for her debut headline shows. Other notable live performances include support slots for Rimon and Hamzaa.
Born & Raised in South West London’s Brixton, with roots in Côte d’Ivoire, music has been a part of Yiigaa’s life since the age of seven when she had already written her own song lyrics. She references Ms Dynamite, Niniola, Katy B and Nelly Furtardo as influences. Besides her music career, she is also a part of the National Young Theatre.

Yiigaa has been championed by BBC Radio 1’s Jeremiah Asiamah (Coldest Records, Coldest of the Year, Watchlist 2022), Rickie, Melvin and Charlie, Jack Saunders (Next Wave), Jess Iszatt (featured artist) and more, as well as securing a play on Love Island ‘21. She has garnered support from award-winning DJ and producer, Conducta who remixed her single Closer, naming it as one of his favourite tracks of the year. The 2-step banger was widely shared by the likes of DJ Mag, GRM Daily and Trench Magazine.
