Teaming up with Hairymuffinman the alternative hip-hop powerhouse, Retropxssy delivers this exciting new song titled ‘Fading’. Retropxssy is an up and coming artist born in London but raised in Bristol. Music has been a big part of her life from young, growing up listening to homemade trip hop compilations carefully curated by her mum.
She began making music while studying philosophy, Arabic and Design, topics that are heavily influenced by culture. Her music is not boxed in by any specific categories/genres, she has a range of influences which all seep through her genre bending music. Rave culture, London hip-hop, UK garage, jazz, jungle and punk are all important parts of the buzzing UK music scene which shape this young artist’s music.
Retropxssy loves energy, her first mosh pit being at Glastonbury in 2009 while watching ‘The prodigy’ at the age of 11. She recreated this energy when she performs, making an electricc vibe that strikes at her listener’s core. She explores womanhood in the middle of the mosh-it, touching on politics, power, and relationships in her music.
‘Fading’ is about growing pains, perseverance and self-nourishment.
Retropxssy wasn’t in the studio when she heard the instrumental, but the story poured out of her and she just had to get it down right there and then. She recorded it in a cupboard, holding bits of foam and hoping for the best. ‘Fading’ is a sultry meditation from the Londoner who refuses to be defined.
Her music is modern, cutting edge. Something to truly be excited about. We look forward to hearing more from Retropxssy but for now, you can find her on social and keep updated with what’s to come.
